What Happened To Rapper AKA? The South African Artist Reportedly Dead From Shooting

Diswrenching news from South Africa has it that rapper AKA has been shot dead – Here’s what we know.

Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, known professionally as AKA, was a South African rapper and was considered among the best and richest rappers from the continent.

Born and raised in Cape Town, Forbes gained significance after releasing his single “Victory Lap” which was released from his debut studio album, Altar Ego.

His most recent projects include a song titled “Paradise” in which he featured Musa Keys and Gyakie from Ghana, and a song titled “Lemons” in which he featured Nasty C – all songs were released in later 2022.

On the evening of February 10th, 2023, fans of the rapper were hit with the tragic news that the rapper had been confirmed dead by multiple sources claiming he was shot in Florida road, Durban, in SA.

What actually happened to AKA? He was repeatedly shot 5 times to his death.

The death of AKA was first shared by a South African, Durban journalist, Se-Anne Rall (her Twitter account is @seannerall).

Another Twitter user named Olele Salvador reveals an eyewitness says the late rapper was allegedly shot 5 times at 8 pm on February 10, 2023, and was the only one gunned down at the scene.

Later, the source added that not only AKA, but medics confirm one other person whose name is not known also died at the shooting scene. The road of the incident has since been cordoned off.

According to Durban journalist,@seannerall, crime scene experts have mapped out at least 5 spots, marking bullet casings.

Another South African rapper Da L.E.S confirmed the unfortunate news of the rapper’s death by taking to his Twitter to pay a disturbing tribute. He wrote “I’m done” with a broken heart and crying emojis.

His manager, Thato T Effect, confirms the reports of his death via WhatsApp status stating they shouldn’t have done the show.

Video footage reveals that AKA was at a local restaurant known as ‘Wish On Florida’ in Durban in what seems to be a hearty moment with his friends hours before he was shot outside the same location, apparently.

Per the rapper’s Instagram, he together with his manager and some friends were at the restaurant to celebrate the late rapper’s birthday although his actual birthday was 8 days away as he was born on January 28.

Apparently, two unknown cars are believed to have opened fire just before 10 pm according to IOL. Another person believed to be AKA’s bodyguard was also wounded, while another unidentified person, who is understood to be a close friend of AKA, has been shot dead.

Hours later, the family of AKA confirmed his death as they asked for privacy and for the public to keep them in their prayers while they await the police to do their investigations.
