Is GPT-3 Free? Can I Use OpenAI For Free Online?

OpenAI has released the prototype for its latest AI project, Chat GPT or ChatGPT, but what is it exactly and is it free to use online?

Sam Altman’s OpenAI released an artificial intelligence chatbot on November 30 named ChatGPT and it’s taken the tech industry and the internet by storm – and left us a little concerned, if we’re honest.

Founded by Elon Musk and Altman in 2015, OpenAI’s latest chatbot application is capable of understanding human dialogue and generating detailed human-life text as if you were typing to a friend.

Research for GPT commenced in 2018 and two versions have been released so far, but neither has been released to the general public. So, what is it and how do you use it?

ChatGPT (generative pre-training) is an AI chatbot system akin to the automated customer support chats seen online. It is, however, a massive step up as it isn’t limited to several answer options that can be frustrating.

Trained by artificial intelligence and machine learning, the application can provide information and answer questions through a conversation. During development, an early version of ChatGPT was fine-tuned via “conversations” with humans, the BBC reports.

Elon Musk, who is no longer part of OpenAI’s board, claimed in a tweet that the system also learned from access to Twitter data. The Twitter owner added he had paused access “for now.”

The dialogue format allows follow-up questions and, most lifelike of all, admit its mistakes and rejects inappropriate requests, writing the company statement.

The full statement reads: “We’ve trained a model called ChatGPT, which interacts in a conversational way. The dialogue format makes it possible for ChatGPT to answer follow-up questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests.

“ChatGPT is a sibling model to InstructGPT, which is trained to follow instructions in a prompt and provide a detailed response. We are excited to introduce ChatGPT to get users’ feedback and learn about its strengths and weaknesses.”

ChatGPT can do more than offer you a conversation; OpenAI has equipped it with the ability to correct grammar, summarize difficult text into simpler concepts, convert movie titles into emojis, and even fix bugs in Python code.

At the time of writing, there are 49 different tools to play around with.

Yes, ChatGPT is currently free to use during OpenAI’s feedback period. The company hopes to use the reviews to improve the final version.

In November 2021 the waitlist was removed for GPT-3, allowing more people to use the OpenAI API for things like app development. What most people don’t know is that a simple web version of GPT-3 is accessible through the OpenAI Playground.

You can use the language model for a host of different writing tasks, from generating a clever video title to writing your profile bio. Playing around with this futuristic AI is incredibly satisfying

You don’t need to be a software developer to try GPT-3, the famous language model that can write so well, that it can fool most people into thinking it’s a human author. Public access is through OpenAI Playground, letting anyone try it out with three months of free credit.

Start experimenting with $18 in free credit that can be used during your first 3 months. To keep things simple and flexible, pay only for the resources you use. Use the right model for the job.
