It was an epic finale to the championship, held on the eve of the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final in the Hungarian capital. 

The competition, organised by the World Freestyle Football Association (WFFA), and supported by the UEFA Women’s Football campaign, #WePlayStrong, involved eight of the continent’s most talented freestylers battling it out to be the winner of the all-female event.

Creating history was six years in the making for Aguska and she was delighted to be crowned champion. “There was some tough competition but I came to win this battle and I feel so proud,” she said. “I have been preparing for this from the beginning – I have now won four competitions in a row and I’m improving every time.

Liv Cooke, former world freestyle champion, critiqued the finalists as head judge and gave the new champion her seal of approval. “The energy in the room was amazing and for me, it was a close call between Aguska and Laura,” she said, “but Aguska really stole the show with the variation in her skills and her refined technique.

“Having the first-ever Women’s European Freestyle Football Championship is a huge milestone for female freestyling, it’s amazing to see how far the sport has come since I was 14 years old and the interest is continuing to grow.”

With seven years of experience under her belt, Aguska Mnich is already considered one of the most well-known females in freestyle football. Renowned for being an all-rounder with insane skills, Mnich has been in the world’s top four since 2014 and was crowned Red Bull Street Style World Champion in 2018.

To celebrate the launch of Red Bull Street Style 2021, the official Freestyle Football World Championships – the final of which will be held in Valencia, Spain on November 20 – the Polish freestyle star and London-based street artist Captain Kris came together to create a unique mural inspired by freestyle football tricks.

An imaginative illustrator and street artist heavily influenced by comics, cartoons, and popular culture, Captain Kris said, “It was exciting working with Aguska, and taking on a new direction to the art piece was refreshing. Integrating football tricks like ‘Around the World’ and ‘Rainbow’ into the art piece was a natural progression of the collaboration, as a lot of my work is centered around pop art-themed words. Having her kick the ball against the wall to create paint splatters for me to work around added a whole new dimension to the mural.”

“Firstly work on your body to have strong muscles, you really don’t need to go to a gym you can even work out from home. Then try Freestyle, start from kick-ups and then go for easy tricks like around the world or cross over”. “First I do a Morning pre-workout between 7 am and 8 am then I go for my freestyle session which is between 10-1 pm for (3-4 h a day) 6 days a week”.

“Freestyle is the ball, yourself, and some kind of football tricks. If you want to freestyle, just pick up the ball and give it a go,” Aguska says. “I get inspiration from everything around me and love going to different locations to experiment with new styles and trick creations. If you really believe in something, you can do it. Freestyle is beautiful because you create your own style – so be unique and be yourself.”

1. Practice every day – Being a top freestyle footballer needs dedication and motivation. You need to practice every day.
2. YouTube if your friend – Watching videos of breakdancing and acrobatics is a brilliant way to get inspired.
3. Learning new tricks takes time – When you’re learning new things, to start with your legs will be super slow and new football skills could take one to two weeks to really learn. So, keep practicing and you will get it.
4. Put some thought into a playlist – Take the time to create a good playlist, as it makes it easier to learn tricks when you can vibe to the beats.
